So today McKenzie had her first appt with the speech therapist. In June she went to the EI evaluation - she was 18 months then and they stop correcting for preemies at 18 months instead of 2 yr. (when most people stop correcting). She was borderline for qualifying for speech services at that time- so they went ahead and put her through knowing that it would probably be September before she would be seen. She only qualifies for 1 hour 1x a month. So the therapist came today and McKenzie did great! She was talking up a storm. Most of it was just jargon but she was trying to talk in sentences a lot while she was here. I had been keeping a list of the words she knows and it was over 30, plus she also repeated a lot of words while the therapist was here and some sentences/phrases like "I want that one." At least that is what it sounded like and if the therapist is going to count it, then I will count it too! She said McKenzie would not qualify for services if she was evaluated now. So that's good. She will still get services for 12 months though if we want it - we will only be here for 1 more visit, but they will point us in the right direction in TX and we will see how she is doing.
